Mustang SSP 10-7FR

1989 Ford Mustang SSP

This is THE one and only marked Mustang GT that Massachusetts has ever used.  This Mustang was not owned by the MSP until 1993, as this was a drug confiscated vehicle.  As the story goes, this vehicle only had a two day service life as a marked vehicle.  I'm not exactly sure what it was used for those two days (rumor is that a state trooper wanted to enjoy it a bit), but after that, it was turned into a public relations car.  It was recently discovered that this car was equipped with a removable Falcon radar gun (plugs into the cigarette lighter).  In one of the interior photos, it can be seen sitting behind the driver's seat.  During life with the MSP, it was stored more than it was actually used, as it was reported that this Mustang sat in storage for somewhere between 13-15 years.  While in storage, some parts were randomly taken off of this car by at least one trooper.  This is why you'll find two different "looks" of this car.

The first look consisted of Turbine wheels (original equipment for this car in 1987), "State Police" letting on the rear window and two antennas for the radio equipment.  At the later end of their ownership, the second look consisted of another paint job (painted over the door handles and key locks this time), silver tri-pinstripes in the moldings around the car, Pony wheels (original equipment for 1990-1993 Mustangs, not 1987), another radio and a roof mounted antenna was added.  The "State Police" never returned to the back window.  The second time it was painted by a trade school for free as part of an educational experience.  This car has a considerable amount of overspray still today, however, while it was being shown, one state trooper took the car home one day after an event and painted (rattle canned) the trim around the windows back to black for a more presentable look.

Although I have an interior photo of this car, it was taken prior to the third antenna and additional radio being added.  Luckily, thanks to the state trooper who drove this a few times, those items were easily identified.  I'm going to restore this car to the second look because I want this to look like it never left the MSP.  Plus, those Pony wheels will match the 5-spoke American Racing wheels on the Bronco!
